Patient Led Prescription Ordering

Important changes to the way prescriptions are ordered.

To reduce medicines wastage we are making changes to the way some patients order their repeat medication.

What is changing?

If medication is ordered on your behalf by your pharmacy, you will now need to order it yourself directly from Wellfield Health Centre through one of the methods described below and your GP will process the request as normal.

What do I need to do?

From Monday 1st April 2024 the surgery will only accept prescription requests from you or your carer. You can request your prescription from the surgery in the following ways:

Via the NHS App. If you do not have this, we would encourage you to download this now to start familiarising yourself. You can do this by visiting this page: NHS App.

____

Via PATCHs on our website (https://patchs.ai/practice/wellfieldhealthcentre).

____

Via email. Please include your full name and date of birth, along with the names and doses of your medication(s):

GMICB-HMR.WellfieldHC.Prescriptions@nhs.net

____

In person at the surgery.

When is this happening?

The change will take effect from Monday 1st April 2024

What is not changing?

If you already order repeat prescriptions direct from the practice , you will not be affected. Pharmacies that collect prescriptions from GP surgeries will still do so. Any arrangements with pharmacies to deliver your medication will go unchanged.

Why is this happening?

Most patients are able to take responsibility for ordering their own repeat prescriptions. This is safer, and evidence from other areas in the country shows that it  reduces medicines waste.

How do I find out more?

Speak to reception by telephoning the surgery on the above number or dropping into the practice.

Who do I contact if I need more support?

If you feel you might need support ordering your repeat prescription, or you know someone who might need help, please contact the surgery. We understand that not all patients are comfortable using digital tools, and have therefore scheduled drop-in sessions at the practice where a Digital Facilitator will be on hand to help get patients signed up to the NHS app and help you to navigate in preparation for 1st April 2024:

Monday 12th February 2024: 10am - 2pm

Monday 18th March 2024: 10am – 2pm
